Place to hold a party?
  nacho_cheese

07:50pm 10/08/2010
My fiance and I are getting married this Halloween in Boca Raton. The Friday night before, we want to have a Halloween party for all our friends, kind of a bachelor/ette shindig. We're looking for a place that will hold up to 50 people -- with me and FH included, if everyone were to attend, we'd have 46 people. Food and drink are not required, as we'll be providing the nosh and the party is otherwise BYOB (bring/buy/whatever). A separate room is pretty much a requirement, though we don't really care if it's a restaurant or a big ol' space.

We're hoping to find a place somewhere either in Deerfield Beach, Coral Springs, or somewhere in between.

So... can anyone recommend a place?

Thanks in advance! :)

Palm Beach Food Reviews

Visit the new website for Palm Beach Food. www.PalmBeachFoodReviews.com is the place for food reviews, restaurant listings, and the blog by Gastronomical Jew!

Did you ever go out to a restaurant and have such a great experience that you couldn't wait to tell all of your friends?
We have them all the time!

We always wondered if your experiences are effected by the company that you keep and the mood that you're in that day.
If we you having a celebratory meal, lets say for a big bonus you received or a good grade at school, would that make the service better, because your energy was more exuberant?

Does food taste better when you've come off of a really bad stomache virus and you haven't eaten anything but broth or jello for a week? We would think that it does.

How about if you spent the holidays in a self induced gluttony marathon, would a gourmet buffet breakfast be fair to review?
Of course it wouldn't be fair... we couldn't eat another bite!

Their are a few rules that we impose on ourselves, as reviewers for Palm Beach Food Reviews (as well as Broward Food Reviews, and Miami Food Reviews.com).

First, we are looking for restaurants that want to be reviewed.

We don't want to surprise you on the day that your chef has the flu. We want to be invited in. Sample your specials, check out the kitchen , and meet the staff. We want to hear your story of the "why" you decided to create this dream of serving people your food. We want the people that read our reviews to know who you are, and what you care about when they come into your restaurant. We do want them to have expectations, and we want you to meet those expectations by way of sharing your story first hand with us.

Our readers are our friends. We want to introduce you to them through our experience.

Free Elementary Books for the Summer!
  stitchedsutures

03:04pm 07/06/2008

mood: good
I work for the Martin County School District, which has just been dismissed for the summer. The district is getting new reading and math books for the next school year, which means there are LOTS of leftovers that are just going to be thrown away!

**ALL WORKBOOKS ARE BRAND NEW AND HAVE NEVER BEEN USED! HARDBACK READING BOOKS AND TEACHERS EDITIONS HAVE EITHER NEVER BEEN USED OR ARE STILL IN WONDERFUL CONDITION!!! VERY GOOD FOR ENGLISH LANGUAGE LEARNERS AS WELL! :)

I have 1st grade math workbooks and teachers editions, 1st grade hardback reading books (from lower to higher level readers), the corresponding workbooks, cassette tapes and teachers editions, phonics workbooks and additional paperback reading selection/activity books. They are all up to current Sunshine State Standards for education. There is nothing wrong with them, the district just decided that it was time to get a new set of everything. I find this TERRIBLY wasteful to just have all of these materials thrown into a landfill somewhere, so I've been loading my car full with as many as I can take as often as possible and distributing them to places like Boys & Girls Clubs, churches and other organizations or friends that work with kids who can make use them.

If you know anyone who has a child who is going into 1st grade or who needs extra practice over the summer before going to 2nd grade (heck, even if you have a little one going into Kindergarten and you'd like them to have some practice ahead of time with phonics and reading), or if you work with an organization who could use any of this over the summer, please let me know if you'd be interested in ANY of these materials! I will be picking up all that I can over the next week, but whatever isn't taken by FRIDAY, JUNE 13, 2008 WILL BE THROWN AWAY! :(

You may contact me via this post or email me at thepsionic@gmail.com if you have any questions. I am keeping an entire set of all of these to use for tutoring, so that's another possible use for anyone who may be interested. Thanks!

Thursday's Meeting
  dannyhammontree

06:37pm 02/01/2008
We are pleased to announce that professional photographer Jerry Rabinowitz will be coming to South Florida Camera Club for our first meeting of 2008! This meeting will take place January 3rd at 7pm. You can view a map of the location by checking out our website: http://southfloridacameraclub.com

Jerry Rabinowitz has been a professional photographer for almost 30 years, and specializes in architecture and architectural based themes. His clients include national and regional magazines, corporate and advertising clientele. Jerry was a large format photographer for many years, but Jerry’s workflow has since become 100% digital. Jerry was president of ASMP (American Society of Media Photographers) in New Mexico, and lectured for Fujifilm. He now teaches lighting at Palm Beach Photographic Centre.

As a photographer, I always wonder why I shoot what I do, says Jerry. At the meeting Jerry will explore the process involved in image creation. Jerry states that “in the digital world megapixels, algorithms and workflow seem to rule”, and ask “Does the technical dominate or is the image the destination?” Jerry will also discuss architectural photography, as well as a look at the decision process in photography. All information about this event can be found here: http://southfloridacameraclub.com

Job search time!

mood: good
I know not too many employers search LJ for prospective employees, but it never hurts to throw yourself out there wherever you can when you're job hunting. You never know what might present itself.

I need a new job by the first of the new year. I've got years of experience with clerical/administrative/data entry (office jobs) as well as excellent customer service and interpersonal skills. If anyone knows of any places that might be looking for a new full time employee, feel free to pass along the info! I have a BA in Industrial Design, have extensive computer and communication skills. I'm very efficient, organized and am a strong team player. I work very well in high stress, fast paced and multi-tasking work environments. I'm interested in anything from clerical/administrative to arts/entertainment to working with people (children and families especially, but not exclusively). I'm willing to consider anything located from Palm Beach to the Treasure Coast.

I can provide a copy of my resume and references as needed. Please respond here or email me if you have any questions or have any ideas. Any artistic jobs are ideal as well, as I am an extensively and formally trained artist of various media.

Thanks,
Amanda

New to town and looking for a church.
Would love something that leans to worship and lots of music
Also I have a 4 year old that I would hope could have some fun there.
Not partial to denomination but would rather not a huge church.

Thanks for any tips

Thanks in advance!

Several Central Florida Groups are hosting the South East Region of the United States in a demonstration against the U.S. war on Iraq. Organizations of all sorts from across Florida, and reaching all the way to North Carolina, will be attending from all over the South East, including, but not limited to Georgia, Alabama, and all of Florida. We are making a call to groups of community, faith, issue and action to organize their chapters and join us for the largest action the South East has seen in the last 40 years.
